The Smoldering Party

come now! soon enough
the greatest of all is yet
to open its mouth
and float billows of smoke out,
the tornadoes, a few thousand
requests for your presence

come now, the wildfires
between your legs are cooling.
there is still smoke curling
from the cracks in the sky,
still some wisps in your dimples,
but most everyone won’t know
how close you came to embers

found god lying
somewhere between tennessee
and the ocean. his great opus
buried deep with both eyes closed.
when the fires
get big enough
will anyone stop throwing matches?
we are catalyzing the end as we know it.

come now, it will be alright
after all, just a day or two
since you last loved me
and I’m sending snapshots
of all I have; a couple handfuls
of smoke & some thick storms
& the rest of forever
to figure out how best
to collect your diamond embers
